Lincoln has developed beyond recognition over the past 15 years. As the local population increases, so too do local services. Lincoln is very fortunate to benefit from hard working politicians who are committed to improving the region and serving the community. The recent improvements to Lincoln serve as testimony to their efforts. In 50 years time, Lincoln will look different again. In terms of the local economy, it is important that we invest in projects that will benefit regional prosperity.

An Olympic size standard 50m swimming pool would serve this purpose and offer the following advantages:
  • Bring prestige to the city and add to that already offered by the Cathedral, University of Lincoln and Lincoln City football club
  • Demonstrate committal to sport and physical activity as we approach the 2012 London Olympic Games
  • Improve local facilities and provide job opportunities in a growing market sector
  • On a national level, put Lincoln at the forefront of UK sporting investment; acting in a consultancy role to other regions
  • Give Lincoln the opportunity to host national and international level sporting competition and
benefit from the media attention this attracts
  • Benefit from increased tourism as a direct result of the facility
  • Show that our county is taking action against childhood and adult obesity by increasing participation in sport and physical activity
  • Follow the new developments in Grantham, Louth, Boston and Sleaford with investment in our flagship city
  • Allow Lincoln to develop athletes to Olympic standard without them having to relocate to Loughborough or Bath for example
  • Provide opportunities for swimming to a generation of young people, whether through school swimming or otherwise
  • Make Lincoln one of only a handful of universities across the UK to have an Olympic park
  • Allow Lincoln to bid to become a centre of excellence for swimming, in the future this being extended to other sports
