"YES, WE SHOULD SPLASH OUT ON AN OLYMPIC POOL"
Lincolnshire Echo (August 11).  Written in their 'Your View' section.

Positive comments by Patrick Crowley (President of Lincolnshire ASA), Karen Noonan and David Adams were a huge confidence boost to the campaign and successfully retained the momentum from the article published in the Lincolnshire Echo (August 7).  We are very grateful for the support of the public.

"CITY'SOVERWHELMING SUPPORT FOR 50M POOL"
Lincolnshire Echo (August 7).  Written by Matthew Pike.

"More than 80 per cent of Lincoln people think the city needs a 50m swimming pool, according to an Echo poll...Lincoln City councillor Ralf Toofnay is supporting the campaign.  He used to chair the councils sports committee...'The fact that 82 per cent of people feel we need a pool means many will be willing to pay  little more for a specialised swimming pool', said Mr Toofany."

We are delighted with the overwhelming support of the local community and believe that this figure highlights the degree of public support for this proposal.  Furthermore, Mr Toofany highlighted that a public swimming pool is required in the city as current pools are attached to schools, and are therefore inaccessible during the day.

"OLYMPIC POOL WOULD BE AN ASSET TO THE COUNTY"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 19).  Written in their 'Your Veiw' section.

"For many years I hae urged support for the international swimmers of Lincolnshire, and cannot understand why the local authorities seem to be so reluctant to put forward any proposals for an Olympic-size swimming pool".

Comments in this section of the newspaper reflect the views of Jack Merian and Caroline Strathon.  Comments were reflective of the true nature of this campaign and demonstrated forward thinking.  We are delighted to understand that the Lincolnshire public are right behind this campaign.

"A 50M POOL WOULD BE A GREAT ASSET FOR OUR CITY"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 14).  Written in their 'Your View' section.

Comments by Brian Blore, Robert Bushell and Debby Furnish highlighted further public support and informative suggestions to ensure the enture community benefitted from such a proposal.  We are delighted that members of the public are willing to voice their opinions on the issue.

"SPORTING CHANCE: 50-METRE POOL OR NO 50M POOL, THAT IS THE QUESTION FOR AUTHORITIES"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 7).  Written by Steve De Wint.

"A petition has been set up to lobby for a 50-metre pool in Lincoln and I am personally not in favour of this particular sports project.  Some people in this newspaper have said that I should not be so negative.  However some people have also said that it is only right that someone is pragmatic about these issues - which is it to be?...So let us take some of the emotion out of this argument and let me share some of the facts about my reaction to this petition.  This is the second time in three years I have been asked to investigate the same issues - and the world of swimming pool design and management has not changed much in the intervening period.  A 50-metre swimming pool will require a significant revenue subsidy and there is no obvious £500,000 per year spare cash that such a facility could require (Parliamentary figures not mine - local research has the subsidy much higher because of our small population).  There is a two-page list of facilities that are needed to cater for our population in the Lincolnshire Facilities Assessment, which was strategically and methodically compiled.  There are three areas where swimming pools are listed as needed and not one of these is a 50-metre pool in the Lincoln area."

The comments in this article were unexpected, but ensured that campaign organisers were realistic about the proposal and provided a sharp warning that facts must be entirely accurate.  Unfortunately, we learned from this article that this organisation do not support the campaign, leaving us feeling somewhat deflated briefly.

"SWIMMING POOL BID GATHERS PACE"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 5).  Written in their 'Your View' Section.

"More people are getting behind a campaign to get a 50 metre swimming pool for Lincoln.  This week, Lincoln MP Gillian Merron has put her name behind the campaign...Ms Merron said: 'I am right behind this campaign for a new Olympic pool in Lincoln.  Lincoln is an ever growing and ever-important place and we need the facilities to make proper provision', she said."

We have delighted to hear such positive views in the media, from members of the public and from inspirational individuals such as Gillian Merron MP.  We are confident we represent the views of the local community.

"50M POOL A NECESSITY FOR MEDAL-WINNING HOPEFULS"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 4).  Written in their 'Your View' Section.

Articles from Karen Noonan and Colin German highlight the public support for this campaign, from the benefits to competitive swimming, to public provision and even the suggestion of coupling the proposal with the development of an ice rink (as a result of cost effective management and energy efficiency should both be built).

"SWIM CLUB: LET'S TAKE PLUNGE WITH OLYMPIC POOL"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 3).  Written by Emma Snedden.

"A top swimming club has joined the campaign to get an Olympic standard 50m pool built in the city.  The Lincoln Vulcans are supporting a petition started by swimming enthusiasts Russell Smith, from Saxilby, and David Spafford, from Sleaford...Lincoln Vulcans - which has more than 270 members - currently uses a variety of pools including Yarborough, North Kesteven, City, RAF pools at Waddington and Cranwell and a 50m pool in Loughborough.  Chairman David Hendel said: 'we are delighted at the possibility of further facilities becoming available'."

Lincoln Vulcans swimming club voiced their support of the campaign to enhance the quality of sporting, specifically aquatic, provision within the City and thereby create extensive opportunities for the entire community to become involved in the sport reported to be the fastest growing public participatioin sport... SWIMMING!

"SWIMMERS SUNK WITHOUT 50M POOL"
Lincolnshire Echo (July 2).  Written by Anna Temple.

"City swimmers have launched a campaign to get an Olympic standard pool for Lincoln... The campaign began on June 22, with launch of a website and online petition.  And in the first three days they collected d385 signatures."

Campaign organisers outlined a handful of reasons to justify the reasoning behind the campaign for a 50m swimming facility in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

"But chief executive of the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, Steve De Wint, said he doesn't think there is much chance of success...'I don't think a 50m pool is either justifiable or reasonable in Lincolnshire', he said".
